SDYS’S COMMUNITY OPUS PROJECT FEATURED ON FRONT PAGE OF UNION TRIBUNE!

The San Diego Youth Symphony’s Community Opus Project featured in an article on the front page of the Union Tribune and included in Night and Day online.

The article entitled “MUSIC PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN FOSTERS COMMUNITY HARMONY” is written by James Chute who visited our fall camp rehearsal and met with San Diego Youth Symphony staff and Community Opus Project students and parents.

Eric Booth, senior adviser to El Sistema, U.S.A., is quoted in the article as saying that the San Diego Youth Symphony’s Community Opus Project is:

...significantly out in the lead for building strong relationships with schools and working toward integrating the after school with the in school. It has the potential of being an important national model.

We’re thrilled that this worthy program is getting the recognition and support from both the national and local community.

COMMUNITY OPUS PROJECT PRESENTS THE FORD BRINGS BACK TO SCHOOLS TOUR!

San Diego County Ford Dealers and San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory launched the Community Opus Project’s “Ford Brings Back Music Back to Schools Tour”. The tour will feature ten special concert events at different schools in Chula Vista during their afterhours program. These concerts are presented specifically for STRETCH students and families at Chula Vista elementary schools and offers students in the audience a chance to learn and perform a song with instruments. Performing are students from the San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory’s Community Opus Project from Otay and Lauderbach schools.

The Community Opus Project is an essential part of SDYS’ goal to Make Music Education Accessible and Affordable to all students by championing the restoration and strengthening of music education in public schools. We are grateful to the Chula Vista Elementary District and the San Diego County Ford Dealers for their support and of this vision.
