16th ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF MUSIC EDUCATION CONCERT!

COMING UP NOVEMBER 13TH

The 16th annual Celebration of Music Education Concerts will be performed by our students on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at California Center for the Arts, Escondido.  The concerts honor the region’s finest music teachers and celebrate the importance of music education to a child’s development and the strengthening of community.

2011 Profiles in Music Education Awards

The Winds Concert at 1:00 p.m. will honor Mr. Jim Reed, a tireless advocate for music education and an inspiring teacher of the clarinet and saxophone since he retired from his career in aerospace engineering and military electronics.  Throughout his career, while working on projects like developing the Tomahawk cruise missile during the day, he performed with professional bands and jazz ensembles at night.

The Orchestra Concert will be held at 5:00 p.m. in honor of Dr. Cynthia McGregor, an accomplished musician, music theorist and professor at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, whose passion for music education is fueled by witnessing how it positively impacts every aspect of students’ lives.

Teachers Celebrated

In addition to honoring award winners, the SDYS reaches out to the hundreds of music educators throughout the region and offers them complimentary tickets to the concerts as a way of giving the 700 students enrolled in the San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory an opportunity to personally thank them for bringing musical training to so many children in San Diego county.

"Music teachers throughout the San Diego region contribute so much to students' lives, by serving as role models who guide students on their musical journeys, while instilling the value of patience, diligence, individual effort and cooperative team work toward lifelong success and achievement. Our annual Celebration of Music Education Concerts highlight and pay tribute to the positive impact of music educators' work, and their important contributions to society."

Jeff Edmons, Music Director of the San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory
