Announcing our 2012 Wind Symphony and Sinfonia Competition

Important Dates

Preliminaries: Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Villa Musica
Finals: Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at Neurosciences Institute
Winners’ Performances: Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Copley Symphony Hall

Details

The competition is open to all members of the SDYS Sinfonia and Wind Symphony who are in good standing. Students need to select one movement from a concerto listed on the Wind Symphony Concerto Competition Suggested Repertoire List or the Sinfonia Concerto Competition Suggested Repertoire List. If a student wants to perform a different piece, they need to clear this with the SDYS Program Director, Carina Voly.  Submit the filled out application to the SDYS office by December 10, 2011. Please keep in mind that no late applications will be accepted.

Awards

The Sinfonia first place winner will perform at the June 9, 2012 Showcase Series concert at Copley Symphony Hall with Sinfonia will be featured in the program.  In addition, the first, second and third place winners will each receive a San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory Scholarship to advance their music studies.

The Wind Symphony first place winner will  perform at the June 9, 2012 Showcase Series concert at Copley Symphony Hall with the Wind Symphony and receive a San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory Scholarship to advance their music studies.
