U-T San Diego: A flurry of activity at the San Diego Youth Symphony

The San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory has scheduled a busy February.
On Feb. 2, participants in the organization’s Community Opus Project are traveling to Pasadena to join students from other “El Sistema” music education-related programs from Pasadena (VYMA Music Project) and Santa Barbara (ICAN Music Program) in a joint “seminario” (information at PasadenaSeminario@gmail.com).
On Feb. 4, the organization’s Concert Winds, Wind Symphony, Concert Orchestra and Sinfonia will perform a
2 p.m. “Showcase Concert” in Copley Symphony Hall, followed by a 7 p.m. “Ovation Concert” by the flagship Symphony and Philharmonic orchestras (concert tickets are $35 and $25 for adults; $10 for students;

On Feb. 11, Community Opus students will set up a musical petting zoo and perform at Chula Vista’s Heart on Center, an arts-oriented festival on Chula Vista’s Center Street from 4-8 p.m.
On Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Neurosciences Institute, the organization will hold the concerto competition finals for its Wind Symphony and Sinfonia. Admission is free.
